Foreverse in 10 Minutes: Model, Book, Continuation, and Character Chat

Updated · 2026-08-10Public document
Direct answer: Open Me → AI Models & Services and configure either the official channel or your own API key. Then use Home to import a book, open it and select text to continue; import a character-card file from Home and open it to start a chat. The current bottom navigation is Home, Discover, and Me; characters live inside Home and Agent work starts from Quick Dock.

Before you start

  • Foreverse v76 or later installed on Android.
  • A txt/epub book and, optionally, a PNG/JSON/.charx character card stored on the phone.
  • Either a signed-in official-channel account with credits or an API key from a supported provider.

Where to find it

  • Me > AI Models & Services
  • Home > + > Import a novel
  • Reader > Select text > Continue here
  • Quick Dock

Step-by-step

  1. Choose how AI calls are paid

Open Me → AI Models & Services. Sign in to use the metered official channel, or open a provider, paste your own key, run Test connection, enable a model, and select it under Default model configuration → Text.

A text model appears as the active default and its provider is shown without an error badge.

  2. Import the first book

Open Home, tap +, choose Import a novel, and select the txt or epub in the system file picker. Then tap the new shelf item and let the first-open conversion finish.

The book opens in the Reader and its chapters appear in the table of contents.

  3. Run a first continuation

Long-press text near the point where the story should continue, adjust the selection, tap Continue here, add a one-sentence direction or leave it blank, confirm the model, and start generation.

New text streams into a visually distinct AI segment while the imported source stays unchanged.

  4. Import a character card

Return to Home, choose the character/card import action, and select the original PNG, JSON, or .charx file. Open the imported character and choose Start chat.

The greeting appears and a message can be sent using the selected text model.

  5. Know the three main entrances

Use Home for books, characters, companions, and your library; Discover for public content; Me for models, account, settings, data, and support. Use the floating Quick Dock to ask the Agent for help or run a task.

How to know it worked

  • A text model is selected and can complete a connectivity check or real generation.
  • The imported book and character remain visible after leaving and reopening Home.
  • The continuation is an AI segment/branch and the original imported text is still intact.
  • The character chat opens with the card greeting and accepts a message.

Cost, data, and irreversible-risk notes

  • Importing, reading, and organizing local files do not call a model. A connectivity test or generation may make a real provider request.
  • Official-channel calls spend credits; 1 credit = US$0.0001. BYOK calls are billed by the provider attached to your key.
  • Books, cards, and chat history are local-first. The selected context is sent to the model provider only when you request AI output.
  • Keep original card and book files until you have verified the import. Do not uninstall or switch between differently signed Play/site builds before exporting data.

Troubleshooting

No model is available in the continuation or chat form

Likely cause: The provider is not connected, the model is disabled, or no text default is selected.

What to do: Go to Me → AI Models & Services, test the provider, enable a text-capable model, then set it under Default model configuration → Text.

The imported txt has garbled text or bad chapters

Likely cause: The file encoding or chapter headings were not recognized as expected.

What to do: Re-export as UTF-8 txt or use epub with a table of contents, then import the corrected copy as a new item.

A PNG character card imports as a normal image or fails

Likely cause: Messaging/social compression stripped the embedded card metadata.

What to do: Ask for the original file as a document, or use the JSON/.charx version. Do not resave the PNG in a photo editor.

401 / unauthorized

Likely cause: The API key is invalid, expired, missing, or belongs to a different host.

What to do: Re-copy the key from the provider console, confirm the selected provider/host, and test again without posting the key in support logs or screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an API key before I can use Foreverse?

No. You can sign in and use the official metered channel. BYOK is optional and lets you pay the provider directly with your own key.

Does a continuation overwrite the imported novel?

No. AI text is kept as a distinct segment/branch. You can delete or regenerate that segment while the imported source stays intact.

Where did the old Character and Agent tabs go?

Current builds use Home, Discover, and Me. Characters are in Home, while Agent tasks and app guidance are available through Quick Dock and its workbench.
