Honest comparison
Foreverse vs MiniTavern
MiniTavern is a focused, mobile-first tavern front end: import SillyTavern PNG or JSON cards, connect OpenAI, Claude, DeepSeek or a local model, and chat with no paywall on the core experience. Foreverse covers that and adds depth around it: .charx and V3 cards with embedded lorebooks that activate with the card, regex and Quick Reply automation, plus a reader with branching continuation and a companion. If you want the lightest possible tavern on your phone, MiniTavern is a clean choice; if your cards are complex or you read too, Foreverse fits.

Same starting point
MiniTavern says it plainly in its listing: SillyTavern players with thousands of cards wanted the tavern on an iPhone. Foreverse started from the same complaint. Both import the cards you already have, both let you bring your own model, and neither asks you to run a server. For simple cards and one-on-one chats, the experience is close.
Where the difference shows
The gap opens with complex cards and with everything outside chat. Foreverse treats the card's embedded assets as part of the contract: a V3 card's lorebook, regex scripts, and alternate greetings activate when you import it, and Quick Reply automation runs a common STscript subset. Outside chat, the same app reads long novels and continues them on branches, and keeps a companion with editable memory. If you only ever need light chats, that extra depth is weight you do not need.
Pick MiniTavern if
- You want the lightest tavern app with a mobile-first chat interface
- Your cards are simple PNG or JSON cards without heavy lorebooks or scripts
Pick Foreverse if
- Your cards carry embedded lorebooks, regex, or V3 features you want to just work
- You use .charx cards
- You also read long fiction and want branching continuation
- You want a companion or multimodal generation in the same app
FAQ
Is MiniTavern free?
Its App Store listing describes a completely free core experience with no paywall for basic tavern chats, with optional paid features. You pay your model provider directly when you use your own API. Foreverse is also free at its core, with optional credits and a one-time Pro purchase.
Can I use my SillyTavern cards in both?
Yes. Both import SillyTavern PNG and JSON cards. Foreverse also imports .charx archives and keeps embedded lorebooks, regex scripts, and alternate greetings active with the card.
