Honest comparison

Foreverse vs Tavo

Tavo is one of the strongest native tavern clients: every feature free, chara_card V1–V3 in PNG/JSON/CHARX, lorebooks, regex, group chat, and HTML/CSS/JavaScript rendering inside chats, with data kept on the device. Foreverse covers the same card layer and goes elsewhere after it: a long-fiction reader with branching continuation, a companion with editable memory, multimodal generation, and an official channel for people without a key. If you live in tavern chat and love customizing it, Tavo is excellent; if you also read and want the companion, Foreverse fits.

Where the two apps overlap

Both apps exist for the same reason: people who play with SillyTavern cards wanted a phone app that just opens, without a server or Termux. Both import V1–V3 cards in PNG, JSON, and CHARX form, both keep your keys and chats on the device, and both send requests straight to the model provider you choose. If your library is mostly cards and lorebooks, either will read it, and moving between them is a matter of exporting files.

Where they go different ways

Tavo puts its depth into the chat itself: HTML and CSS rendering, JavaScript inside chats, status bars, voice playback, and a free price on everything. If you enjoy building interfaces inside your roleplay, that is a real advantage, and it also runs on iPad and Mac.

Foreverse spends its depth beyond the chat: you can import an epub and continue the story on branches, turn a novel into a visual-novel performance, keep a companion whose memory you can read and edit, and generate images, narration, or video with the providers you pick. It also offers an official channel, so someone without an API key can start with credits instead of signing up at a provider first.

Pick Tavo if

  • You want every feature free, with no paid tier at all
  • You like customizing chats with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • You also want the app on iPad or Mac

Pick Foreverse if

  • You read long fiction and want AI continuation on branches that keep the original
  • You want a companion with memory you can see and edit
  • You want to start without an API key, using the official channel
  • You want image, narration, or video generation inside the same app

FAQ

Is Tavo free?

Yes. Its App Store listing says all features are completely free, and the app connects directly to the API you configure, so your only cost is the model provider. Foreverse is also free at its core; it adds optional paid credits for an official model channel and a one-time Pro purchase.

Can I move my cards between Tavo and Foreverse?

Yes. Both read standard chara_card files (V1–V3 as PNG, JSON, or CHARX). Export cards and lorebooks as files from one app and import them into the other. Chat history formats differ between apps, so plan to keep the old app if past chats matter.

Which one is better for SillyTavern users?

Both read the same files, so the choice comes down to what else you want. Tavo is stronger for heavy chat customization and is free. Foreverse is stronger if you also read novels, want a companion, or want built-in multimodal generation.
