Move Your Whole SillyTavern Setup to Android with One Backup Zip

Updated · 2026-08-12Public document
Direct answer: In SillyTavern, download a full backup zip from user settings. Move the zip to your phone, then open Me → Essentials → Import from SillyTavern → Pick a file from phone and select it. Character cards, per-character chat archives, worldbooks, prompt presets, Quick Replies, and global regex import together in one pass, entirely on-device. API keys are never read from a backup, so reconnect your provider before the first test message. No Termux, no PC server.

Before you start

  • Access to your existing SillyTavern (PC or hosted) to create one full backup, or at least a copy of its user-data folder.
  • A way to move the zip to the phone: same-WiFi transfer, a cloud drive, or a messenger that sends real files rather than compressed images.
  • Your provider API keys available from their official consoles—backups deliberately contain no keys.

Where to find it

  • Me > Essentials > Import from SillyTavern > Pick a file from phone
  • Home > + > Import character card
  • Me > Advanced settings > Character Cards & Tavern > Tavern Asset Hub
  • Me > Advanced settings > Character Cards & Tavern > SillyTavern starter guide

Step-by-step

  1. Export a full backup in SillyTavern

In SillyTavern's user settings, use Download Backup to get a zip of your entire user-data folder. Zipping that folder yourself also works, as long as there is at most one wrapper folder around the data tree.

  2. Move the zip to your phone

On the same WiFi, open Home → + → Batch import from folder → ⋮ → WiFi Transfer and drop the zip from a computer browser, or pull it from a cloud drive configured under Me → Connectors. Sending it through a messenger is fine if it goes as a file. Keep the original zip until verification is done.

  3. Import the whole package at once

Open Me → Essentials → Import from SillyTavern → Pick a file from phone and select the zip. It is recognized as a full backup and previewed with per-type counts. One confirmation imports cards, per-character chat archives, worldbooks, prompt presets, Quick Replies, and global regex scripts—entirely on your device, nothing uploads.

The completion view reports imported counts per asset type instead of an empty result.

  4. Verify each asset family

Count cards on the Characters page. Open Me → Advanced settings → Character Cards & Tavern → Tavern Asset Hub and check presets, regex scripts, worldbooks, and Quick Replies. Open a migrated character's Chat sessions list to find old conversations as archived sessions. One catch: backup presets land in the preset library without being activated.

  5. Reconnect keys, then send one test message

Keys are never read from a backup, so connect your provider under Me → AI Models & Services (the BYOK guide covers 401/404/429), enable a preset if you use one, and send a single message to a migrated character—this is the first step that bills a model call. The SillyTavern starter guide under Character Cards & Tavern walks the same post-import checks in four steps.

A reply arrives, and the character behaves like it did in SillyTavern.

How to know it worked

  • Every expected character shows on the Characters page with real card fields, not just images.
  • Old conversations open as archived sessions under the matching character.
  • Tavern Asset Hub counts for presets, regex, worldbooks, and Quick Replies match what the backup contained.
  • After re-entering keys, one test reply arrives and any preset or regex you enabled is visibly in effect.

Cost, data, and irreversible-risk notes

  • The zip import is free and runs entirely on your device; cards and chats are not uploaded to Foreverse servers.
  • Secrets are deliberately never read from the backup, so keys cannot leak through this path—but you must re-enter them under AI Models & Services.
  • The free tier limits how many character cards you can keep; a large tavern library can hit the Pro gate. Migrating your favorites first is a valid strategy.
  • The only billable step is the final test message: once sent, that model call has happened and the reply is stored in the session. If something looks wrong, fix configuration instead of re-rolling—every regeneration bills again.

Troubleshooting

The zip is not recognized as a SillyTavern backup

Likely cause: The archive does not contain the SillyTavern user-data layout, or the data tree is nested several folders deep.

What to do: Prefer SillyTavern's own Download Backup. If you zip manually, compress the user-data folder itself and leave at most one wrapper folder.

Cards arrived but old chats did not

Likely cause: Backup chats only attach to characters imported successfully in the same batch, matched by the chat folder's character name.

What to do: Confirm the card itself imported. To backfill a conversation, use Home → + → Import chat history: a .jsonl file attaches to an existing character with branches and swipes intact.

Presets imported but replies look unchanged

Likely cause: Backup presets are archived into the preset library and never auto-activated, so nothing replaced the built-in prompt structure yet.

What to do: Enable one under Tavern global settings → Presets / Regex / Macros. Layered activation and verification are covered in the presets-and-regex guide.

Themes, backgrounds, or group chats are missing

Likely cause: The zip path deliberately skips themes, backgrounds, user avatars, and groups; the secrets file is never read.

What to do: Import a group chat with its own JSON via Pick a file from phone. Appearance is configured inside Foreverse and does not affect card or chat data.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Termux or a PC server on Android?

No. Foreverse is a native app and the backup imports fully offline. Chats then call your chosen provider with your own key, the same way SillyTavern does.

Are my API keys migrated with the backup?

No. The importer never reads the backup's secrets file—keys should not travel inside backup archives. Re-enter them under Me → AI Models & Services.

Can I migrate piece by piece instead?

Yes. The Import from SillyTavern hub has separate entries for cards, chat history, worldbooks, prompt presets, regex scripts, and Quick Replies, plus a folder smart-import that batch-recognizes files.
