Long fiction has more than one ending in it.
A romance scene can land three ways. A battle has six valid pacings. A goodbye has a tone that depends on the next chapter. Foreverse keeps the alternates around long enough to decide.

A branch can record its model and settings. You can rerun it with a different provider or freeze the version that worked.
Promote when you are sure.
Promote a branch to canonical and the previous canonical becomes a sibling branch. No paragraph is ever orphaned.

Branching is the spine of the product. These are the questions that come up before writers try it.
What counts as a branch in Foreverse?
Anything that diverges from a paragraph in the original draft. A continuation, a rewrite of an existing passage, or a tone shift all create a branch attached to the position where they diverged.
How are branches different from versions?
Versions snapshot the entire document. Branches diverge from a single position and keep going. Foreverse uses branches because long fiction usually has more than one possible ending.
Can I compare two branches side-by-side?
Yes. The Compare view places two branches in parallel columns starting from the divergence point, with shared text dimmed and divergent text highlighted.
What happens to abandoned branches?
Nothing destructive. Branches can be archived to a hidden lane, kept as alternates, or merged into another branch as reference. They are never silently dropped.
