Ch. 28 · Lighthouse Signal

Luowen looked up as the old starport lamps went out one by one, as if someone had folded the night sky into her palm. Wind slid through the service bridge, smelling of old machine oil and salt, cold against her lashes.

She finally understood the warning: every route is not only a path, but an echo. What you say at this end will be heard, word for word, by a stranger on some other night at the far end.

The old archivist used to say the starport feared no storm — only routes that nobody remembered. A forgotten route will find someone with a good memory and make them finish telling it.

She looked down at her palm: the brass key that had slipped from behind the list was still there, its teeth half worn away, yet warm the instant the lamps died, like a heart just remembered.

The ship that vanished tonight would dock again in some other branch. She tucked the key into her sleeve and took the first step toward the old lighthouse.

"Do not light the seventh lamp," she whispered. "It is not a signal. Someone is asking the past for help."

What's next…
Luowen chases toward Pier Seven

The access screen is still awake — and the visitor log holds a name she doesn't recognize, dated three years ago.

Yike rewrites the final voyage record

Change “returning” to “waiting”, holding the whole fleet seven minutes for one missing ship.

Nanzhu opens the old lighthouse

Where the wick should be: a row of empty bottles, the innermost labeled Luowen — dated tomorrow.

Rain falls from the eaves of the Starport Inn, striking the copper bell outside the door. Luoxi sits behind the counter and slides a blue lamp toward you, as if she already knew you were coming.

"There is one room left before the night voyage. After the lighthouse rings three times, do not ask whose ship is outside the window."

The only reader built for the AI era

In Foreverse every selected sentence is a creative entry point: continue the scene with AI, illustrate the selection, narrate it aloud, or branch a new storyline from that exact line. Highlights, notes, dictionary, copy, share — everything a classic reader has, plus everything it never had.

iPad · Selection workbench
Phone · Full reader
  • Selection as a workbenchHighlight, note, dictionary and wiki are table stakes; continue, rephrase, illustrate, narrate, video and branch are the new table stakes.
  • AI images grow inside the pageTap Image on a selection and Imagen or GPT Image renders from context — the illustration lands inline without leaving the page.
  • Every direction becomes a branchNew branch archives the canon as read-only and lets AI write toward a different future; switch, compare, and fork again anytime.
  • Listening built inNarrate a selection or a whole chapter with speed and sleep-timer controls — finish long fiction on your commute.

NEW · VN Theater

Halfway through the book, it becomes playable.

Flip any novel on your shelf into a visual-novel performance: typewriter dialogue, speaker nameplates, and story forks that wait for your choice. Every step is written back into the book, and you exit onto the very page you performed to. We searched the app stores for a second one. Still searching.

Mobile workflows

AI reading, tavern roleplay, worldbooks, and model control in one phone

Foreverse is organized around real mobile sessions: read fiction first, select a passage to branch with AI, bring SillyTavern character cards into immersive chat, and keep every provider key in your own hands.

Reader · AI continuation

When the scene matters,
continue it in place

The reader keeps selection tools, continuation, rephrasing, images, listening, and branching in one mobile flow. Generated passages stream into the page while the original stays intact.

  • 14 selection actions · continue / rephrase / image / branch
  • Tap Continue at the end · pick from three directions
  • Listening mode · night theme · TOC and branch timeline

Paging · Real page turns

Curl, cover, slide —
page turns that feel native

The reader is not a scrolling web view: five page-turn styles actually work — simulated curl, cover with shadow, finger-tracking slide, vertical scroll, and instant none. In paged modes, tap the outer 30% to flip and the middle 40% to summon tools, with finger-tracking drags and a low snap threshold; font-size changes repaginate instantly, with the app theme plus five built-in paper palettes. AI continuations and story options flow straight into the paged stream, and the last page hands off to the next chapter.

  • Five flip styles · finger-tracking drag + 4% snap (5% for curl)
  • Paged-mode 30/40/30 tap zones · seamless cross-chapter
  • Comfortable 17sp type · app theme + 5 paper palettes · live repagination

Reach the end,
pick from three directions

Option generation hands the wheel back to you: after each continuation the AI proposes 3 next-step directions. Tap one and it streams in, then a fresh set appears. Everything lands on a new branch — the original text never changes, so even an abandoned novel can grow the ending you wanted.

  • Tail continuation + 3 next-step options · tap to write
  • Semi-auto mode · edit one line, regenerate
  • All growth on branches · original preserved

Roleplay · Character chat

Character chat keeps the dense tavern workflow close at hand: continue, reroll, ghostwrite, image, TTS, translate, Persona, worldbook, and session controls.

Stuck mid-chat? Plugins think with you:
ideas, choices and state on demand

Power-user tavern features switch on when you want them: Reply Ideas drafts 3 complete lines in your voice each turn — tap to send; Story Choices proposes next actions that fill the input box (Ideas takes priority when both are on); State Tracker infers time, place and cast on demand; Reroll Guard protects replies you like. Eight official plugins toggle in the Plugin Center, plus an always-on favorites shelf; sampling, worldbooks and regex live in Global Settings — zero migration cost for SillyTavern veterans.

Agent · AI workbench

An AI agent that knows
your whole shelf

The Agent tab hosts an AI agent that does real work: it reads your novels, completes worldbooks, organizes notes, and starts new sessions from character cards — with a native tool-call loop that actually reads and writes files. Reasoning and every tool step stay visible; type @ to jump between novels and character cards; the skill catalog is fully customizable.

Workflow

Read, select, continue, branch — a loop that never leaves the page.

Mark a passage inside the AI reader, continue the scene in place, compare branch directions, then carry the same worldbook, notes, and model routing into roleplay chat. The whole AI-novel workflow stays inside the reading view.

01Read

Read the way it was written.

A typographic reader built for long fiction opens the chapter — five page-turn modes, night theme, TTS — not a chat box dressed as a book.

02Select

Mark a passage, summon AI in place.

The selection toolbar carries 14 actions: continue, rephrase, illustrate, narrate, video, branch — tools live on the selection, never interrupting the page.

03Continue

AI streams onto the page.

Each request carries chapter context, characters in scope, and matched lorebook entries, routed through the BYOK model you chose. New prose grows line by line.

04Branch

Every direction becomes a branch.

New passages land on an independent branch timeline while the original stays untouched — switch back, compare side by side, fork again.

One character, four lives

Four places a character can live: page, stage, table, side.

Elsewhere, characters die when the story ends. Here, one character walks from the page onto a stage, sits across the table, and moves into your phone — carrying the same setting and the same visual identity, with memories piling up from the day they become your companion.

One story flowing through four surfaces: reader, theater performance, character chat, companion messages — each demonstrated by an interactive phone prototype.

01On the page

They're born in a book.

You meet the character inside Star Archive. Select a passage and AI continues their scenes, rewrites, illustrates — every direction kept as a branch, the original untouched.

02On the stage

They perform it for you.

The same book switches into VN Theater: nameplates, typewriter dialogue, AI scene backdrops. When the plot forks you choose — first tap expands the outline, second tap confirms, and the direction is written back into the book as a real branch.

03Across the table

They sit down across from you.

Chat from this book's character card and worldbook — they arrive carrying the full setting, with the tavern's actions, branches, and style presets all live. Not an amnesiac shell.

04By your side

They move into your phone.

When it becomes something more, promote them to a companion: long-term memory, proactive messages once you switch them on, and transfers handled in character — in the phone on the right, they're returning your milk-tea money right now.

Four surfaces, one data chain: whatever the book grows, the stage performs; whatever you say, they remember. Every step you play is written back into the book.

Reader-first

The book obeys you. AI writes exactly where you point.

Most AI writing tools hide the document inside a chat box. Foreverse flips that: the page itself is the interface. Select any passage and AI continues, rewrites, or branches it on the spot; when you don't call it, not a single extra button intrudes.

Ch. 12·The Door Opens Twice

The chart in her pocket weighed more than it had this morning. She wondered which Maerin had drawn it, and which Maerin she was about to walk into. The locksmith had warned her about the second hinge, the one that turned when the tide turned.

For a long moment she stood there, breath in her teeth, salt in her hair, the harbour bells two streets behind her.

She pushed, and the door opened twice.

AI · BYOK·Branch · A quieter door

She did not push. She let the second hinge keep its own counsel, and stepped back instead. The harbour bells rang again. The chart in her pocket cooled, then went quiet.

On the way home she counted the captains who had come to Maerin twice, and made a list of the ones who had never come back the second time. There were six. Then, after a beat, seven.

Built for long fiction, not one-off prompts.

Generic AI writers are shaped around a single prompt box. Foreverse is shaped around continuity: chapter context flows into every prompt, branches sit side by side, and each scene can run a different model — so readers and writers can keep a story alive.

Scenes

What can one evening in Foreverse hold?

These are not slogans — each card is a real workflow the app runs today.

Continue

The novel collapses at chapter 180. Select the last passage and have AI rewrite the ending your way — the original stays untouched.

Tavern

Move three years of SillyTavern kit onto your phone: chara_card_v3 cards, lorebooks, regex, Quick Reply automations — all of it.

Branch

The same door opens twice: in one line she walks in, in the other she turns home. Keep both, compare anytime.

BYOK

Romance runs on DeepSeek, battles switch to Claude, illustrations go to Imagen — swap models per scene, in place.

Agent

Say “turn tonight's reading into notes” and the agent actually opens your book, chapter by chapter, before it writes.

Listen

On the commute, let TTS read last night's fresh branch aloud — speed and sleep timer included.

Options

After every continuation, AI offers three directions. Tap one and the story keeps growing; or write your own line.

Private

API keys live in the on-device Keystore and requests go straight to the provider. We couldn't read them if we tried.

FAQ

Common questions about the AI reader and tavern roleplay.

Foreverse is live on Google Play as a BYOK-first app; the iOS beta is open for sign-ups. The answers below cover AI continuation, story branches, SillyTavern compatibility, and provider-key control.

What is Foreverse, and how is it different from a normal e-reader?

Foreverse is an AI fiction reader combined with tavern-style roleplay. Unlike a normal reader, you can select any sentence to have AI continue the novel, rephrase it, illustrate it, or read it aloud; every continuation is kept as a comparable branch beside the untouched original; and the same worldbook and character cards carry into immersive character chat.

Why branches instead of a single continuation?

Long fiction is rarely one ending. Foreverse keeps every AI continuation as an independent branch timeline beside the original, so you can grow several storylines, compare how different models write, and always return to the source draft.

Which AI models and providers are supported?

BYOK covers 60+ providers: OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, xAI Grok, Mistral, Groq, plus any OpenAI- or Anthropic-compatible endpoint or relay. Text, image (Imagen, gpt-image), speech TTS, and video (Veo) models can each have per-scene defaults.

Can I import SillyTavern character cards and lorebooks?

Yes. Foreverse is SillyTavern-compatible: chara_card_v3 character cards, lorebooks, regex scripts, Quick Reply automations, and STscript all import onto your phone, so tavern veterans can bring their whole setup.

Do I need an AI subscription?

No. Foreverse is BYOK-first: pay your providers directly with your own keys. Keys are AES-encrypted on device, requests go straight to the provider, and the app itself has no subscription.

Is my story and chat data private?

Stories, character cards, and chats live on device first. When you call AI, only the context you selected goes to the provider you chose; account deletion and data export stay on public pages.
