Set Up and Run a Roleplay Group Chat on Android
Before you start
- Foreverse v76 or later on Android, with at least two chat-ready character cards in Home → Characters.
- A connected text model through the official channel or BYOK before generating replies or AI-written group rules.
- A Persona and a decision about whether each member's private card lore should stay isolated or be shared with the group.
Where to find it
Home > Characters > long-press card > select 2+ > Create groupGroup chat > group name or stacked avatars > Group identityGroup chat > ⋮ > Group chat settingsGroup chat settings > Advanced settings > Speaking strategyGroup chat settings > Director Card / Automatic mode
Step-by-step
Create the group from the character library
Open Home → Characters, long-press a character card, select at least one more chat-ready card, then tap the bottom Create group action. Name the group and confirm. The new session opens with each member's signed group greeting when available, otherwise its normal greeting.
✓ The new chat identifies at least two members and shows attributed greetings instead of an empty conversation.
Verify members and your identity
Tap the group name or stacked avatars to open the group identity panel. Check every member, open a card when needed, and disable anyone who should not reply. Use ⋮ → Group chat settings → Member management to add, sort, or disable members; use ⋮ → Current status to confirm the Persona and shared world lore for this session.
✓ The identity panel, member order, enabled state, and active Persona match the scene you intend to run.
Choose the member activation strategy
Open ⋮ → Group chat settings → Advanced settings. Choose Natural for @mentions plus rotation, List for fixed order, Manual when you always pick the speaker, or Pooled for a random eligible member. Then choose individual or merged character-card injection and set Member lore visibility to Follow generation mode, Keep private, or Share all.
✓ The settings sheet shows the intended speaking strategy, injection mode, and lore-visibility rule.
Set the Director Card and automatic mode
In Group chat settings, edit the Director Card by hand for free, or choose Generate group rules for one billable Agent call. Apply a play-mode card if useful. Auto-play and smart orchestration can add model calls: applying a mode changes settings only, so tap Start automatic performance separately when you truly want unattended rounds.
✓ The group rules describe relationships and tone, and automatic mode is visibly either stopped or running by deliberate choice.
Direct one test turn and keep a stop control
With Natural strategy, send a short message containing the exact @member name; alternatively open the identity panel and tap a member to force the next reply. Confirm the speaker and response, then stop automatic mode before leaving if it was started. Review request records before retrying a failed or expensive round.
✓ The intended member produces the next reply, the group session is saved, and no automatic loop remains running unintentionally.
How to know it worked
- The group contains the intended members, attributed greetings, enabled states, order, and Persona.
- Speaking strategy, card injection, member-lore visibility, and Director Card match the planned scene.
- An @mention or identity-panel selection directs the next speaker as expected.
- Automatic mode has an explicit visible running/stopped state and can be stopped before leaving.
Cost, data, and irreversible-risk notes
- Creating the group, changing members, editing rules manually, choosing a strategy, and changing lore visibility are local and free.
- Each generated character reply may be a separate text-model call. The official channel spends credits at 1 credit = US$0.0001; BYOK is billed by the provider connected to your key.
- Generate group rules makes one Agent text call. Smart orchestration can add one lightweight call before each speaker, up to three in a round; automatic mode can continue creating billable rounds until stopped.
- According to the chosen injection settings, requests can send member cards, group history, Director Card, active lore, Persona, and your message to the selected provider. Keep private member lore isolated when the story requires it.
Troubleshooting
Create group is unavailable or the group cannot be saved
Likely cause: Fewer than two selected cards are chat-ready, or a referenced member is no longer available in the character library.
What to do: Return to Home → Characters, select at least two cards that can each start a normal chat, then create the group again. Reimport or repair a missing card before adding it.
The wrong member answers
Likely cause: Natural/List/Pooled selected another eligible member, the @name did not match, or a previous manual speaker lock is still active.
What to do: Check the speaking strategy, use the exact member name after @ under Natural, or tap the intended member in the group identity panel to force the next reply.
A character knows another member's private lore
Likely cause: Merged card injection or Share all lore visibility exposed the other card's entries, or the secret was already spoken in chat history.
What to do: Set Member lore visibility to Keep private and use individual card injection for future generations. Already revealed chat content does not disappear, so branch or start a clean group if necessary.
Applying an auto-play mode does not start replies
Likely cause: A play-mode card changes configuration but deliberately does not start unattended generation.
What to do: After reviewing cost and settings, tap Start automatic performance. Use the separate Stop control when the scene has run long enough.
402, 429, repeated orchestration failures, or unexpectedly high usage
Likely cause: Credits/quota ran out, the provider throttled calls, or automatic mode plus smart orchestration created multiple requests. Smart orchestration pauses after repeated failures in the session.
What to do: Stop automatic mode, inspect request records, wait for rate limits or restore balance, reduce enabled members/context, disable smart orchestration, or select a cheaper configured model before one controlled retry.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make one specific character speak next?
Under Natural strategy, include the exact @member name in your message. For a guaranteed manual choice, open the group identity panel and tap that member before generating.
Does choosing the auto-play preset immediately start a conversation?
No. It applies the configuration only. Start automatic performance is a separate action, and Stop remains separate so a mode change cannot silently begin spending.
Does a Director Card cost credits?
Writing or editing group rules yourself is free. Generate group rules makes one text-model Agent call and may be billed; later character replies are separate calls.
Can members be prevented from reading one another's private lore?
Yes. Use individual card injection and Keep private under Member lore visibility. The setting affects later generations; it cannot erase a secret already written into chat history.
