How do I get a Cerebras API key?

Sign up at cloud.cerebras.ai with an email (no waitlist).
Add a payment card to activate the account — under the policy introduced in mid-2026, Playground and API access stay inactive until you do; adding the card grants $5 in trial credits (valid 30 days), with no charges during the trial unless you buy more.
Create a key on the console's API Keys page (csk- prefix); it shows once, so copy it.
To keep going after the trial credits, purchase credits under Billing — the Developer pay-as-you-go tier lifts rate limits sharply and drops the hourly/daily token caps.

Key in hand: three steps to connect

Open the app's Settings → AI models & services and find Cerebras in the list (one of 62 presets, with logo and search).
Paste the key and tap the connectivity test — it fires one real request to verify key and network, and pulls back the model list while it's at it.
Enable the models you want, then set per-modality defaults (text, image, speech, and video each get their own); continuation, chat, and listening route through them from then on.

The one universal host pitfall: the API host must include its full version prefix (this provider's exact form is in the notes below) — the app never appends /v1 for you.
